FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Question -- Are waffles the most delicious substance ever? Answer -- Yes, yes they are.
Question -- How do you tell the difference between a shapeshifter and a human? Answer -- Unfortunatly for some, you usually can't tell it's a shapeshifter by appearance alone. A blood test is required to tell the difference, and luckily a device was developed by the scientists of SEG and manufactured by OverTech. It's called the Blood Calibration System (BCS), and it is a cylinder that's about 4 inches tall, and 3 inches wide. Inside it are three tubes. One has a clear liquid in it made mostly of water and some different chemicals that seperate DNA, the tube to the right is empty, and the last tube is also empty. To test whether someone is a human or a shapeshifter, a syringe is inserted into their arm and blood is drawn. That blood is put into the second tube in the BCS. The lid is closed, and a blue button is pressed on the top of the machine. The blood and some of the clear fluid will be put into the third tube where it is mixed. After about 30 seconds the mixture in the third tube will either turn clear if it's human, or turn blue if it's shapeshifter blood.
Question -- What the heck is OverTech? Answer -- OverTech is simply Wall Mart's big, evil brother. They sell just about anything and everything, and manufacture most things on Earth and Cambria. They are very high tech, and well known for having the best security. If you look, most things that you buy were probably produced by OverTech. The toilet you pee in and the spaceship that you took to Cambria are both probably made by OverTech. Get the picture? The SEG and Overtech do have a relationship in that Overtech manufactures the most of the equipment that SEG soldiers carry.
Question -- How does a shapeshifter become better at shifting? Answer -- That's really simple. Practice. How do you get better with a knife or a gun? You use them often and practice. Shapeshifting is the same way. If your character hardly uses their power at all, likely they won't be very good at it and will be exhausted even after shifting to their first form.
Question -- Does my character need to have a job? Answer -- Well... it would be nice if they did. I mean, if you plan on getting them an apartment they'll need a job to pay the rent. You can have them work at any of the shops located on the In Character board, or they can work for SEG and be a soldier. If you don't know what kind of jobs are avaliable, I highly suggest looking at the Job Listings. Also, if your character is a rehabilitated shapeshifter, they will be required to have a job and a place to live.
Question -- Can shapeshifters and humans have children together? Answer -- Yes, but it is very rare and difficult. Often the children are stillborn, or very sick if they are human. Sometimes it does work out okay though. Shapeshifters cannot, however, breed with animals. Only other shapeshifters and humans.
Question -- Can my person own a space ship? Answer -- Sure they can, but they have to be someone very rich and important like an Executive Officer of OverTech or a Leader of SEG.
Question -- What kind of food do they eat on Cambria? Answer -- Well, basically the same thing you'd eat here on Earth. When the humans went over they brought their food with them. Sure, you might find some odd things here and there, but you find odd things on Earth too.
Question -- Can shapeshifters change into extinct animals? Answer -- Yes, but it's very difficult, and therefore not often done. Also, they may not shapeshift into dinosaurs.
Question -- So let me get this straight, my shapeshifter can change into basically any animal even if it's not their first or second form? Answer -- Yes, but generally shapeshifters use their first and second form because it takes the least amount of energy, and energy is essential to a shapeshifter. Shapeshifters will only take their last form usually if they are very desperate, otherwise there is no point, since they can change into any other animal as well..
Question -- How much energy does it take to shapeshift? Answer -- Well that's hard to explain. I'll do my best though. For a shifter's first form, it's like carrying a box of tissues up a staircase with fifteen stairs. For the second form it's similar to carrying a chair up that same set of stairs. For any other animal besides a shifter's last form, it's like carrying a folding card table up that same set of stairs. For the last form, the amount of energy used is similar to the amount of energy it'd take to carry a large piano up a flight of stairs all by yourself. That help any?
Question -- What happens when a shapeshifter tries to shift, but doesn't have enough energy? Answer -- Hah, poor sucker. They will most likely end up unconcious, probably half way between forms and stuck that way until they wake up. If you're particularily unlucky a vein or something may have connected wrong and you may die.
Question -- Can my character escape from being captured at the SEG? Answer -- ...I'm very, very reluctant to say yes on this one. If that's your plan, keep in mind that it would be near impossible to do. There are several guarded security checks with different types of verification - a code that changes daily, retinal scans, DNA scans, badge scan...you get the picture. The cells would be vitually impossible to break out of - that is, impossible without some incredibly high-grade explosive. Guards rarely take the shapeshifters out unless taking them to the bathroom, to the labs, or to the arena. There are always at least two guards, and if a shapeshifter is considered dangerous, there will be more, and the shapeshifter might be drugged before anyone comes into contact with them. Food is given through a slot in the door just big enough for the tray. All furnishings in the cell are bolted and welded to the floor or the walls, or both. Hopefully that gives you an idea of just how hard it would be to break out of the cells. If you want your character to have been previously captured, I would suggest having them be in the Rehabilitation Program.
